* Denotes a rewatch; sometimes one of several.
The First 13…
Terrifier — Had to see what all the hype was about for this newest entry to the clown-horror sub-genre.
Terrifier 2 — Had to see what all the hype that this one was so much better than the first was about.
Beetlejuice* — Still holds up. Keeps gettin’ funnier every time I see it.
All Hallow’s Eve — Anthology-style precursor to the Terrifiers.
Clown — I wanted to stick with the clown theme a little longer, and this wasn’t so bad.
Shutter Island — I hadn’t seen this DiCaprio joint yet, so gave it a shot. A little slow, but I do love a twist.
The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror I* — JaxKid is getting into the Simpsons, so we started with the first of what is now 33 installments of ToH. God, I’m old.
Stitches — Lower budget horror-comedy that really did have me laughing at gross things a few times. Eight out of 10, recommend.
The Goonies* — Another first for JaxKid, and she never said die. She also wasn’t scared of Sloth, as I was at her age. I’ve gotten over it.
The Nightmare Before Christmas* — I think this has joined the ranks of the annual rewatches…
Halloween* — …like this one. This year I was mostly irritated with Annie singing her boyfriend’s praises. We get it; Paul’s your all.
Halloween II* — Jamie Lee Curtis spends most of this film on the literal floor of a hospital.
Final Destination II* — This is the one that starts with the highway accident, not the roller coaster derailment.
…and on to 31
The Lost Boys — I still have this effing song stuck in my head.
The Lost Boys II — Nice to see Feldman again. Say what you will; he’s aging well. And his autobiography is a good read.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)* — Not the worst remake ever committed to film.
Malevolent — A too-slow vehicle for Florence Pugh, but still: Florence Pugh.
Us — Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out still has me a little confused, but also reminiscing about Hands Across America.
The Devil on Trial — A documentary I wish had been better. And apparently, no demon-centric movie will ever not include The Warrens, ever again.
A Classic Horror Story — An Italian import with a good-enough twist to save a slow-moving plot.
Awake — Nobody can sleep. Chaos ensues.
